Historical Society Updates - Downtown Lowdown, Episode 47

Tipp City’s Rich History and Community Legacy

The latest episode of the Downtown Lowdown, presented by the Downtown Tipp City Partnership, offers a rich look into local heritage with hosts Tasha Weaver and Greg Enslen. Broadcasting from the heart of Tipp City, the episode features special guest Barb Smith, who brings the town’s past vividly to life. The conversation centers on the Historic Society’s museum and its collection of artifacts that capture generations of community stories.

Among the highlights discussed are the museum’s unique exhibits, including Dolly Toys, once produced in the Dolly Packaging Warehouse, items that even made an appearance on the classic television show I Love Lucy. Visitors can also explore flags from local Boy Scout troops, military relics honoring service members, and the preserved register from one of Tipp City’s earliest hotels. Each item reflects a different thread in the fabric of the town’s long and layered history.

The museum welcomes the public every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., encouraging guests to take self-guided tours and engage with knowledgeable volunteers. Beyond regular hours, the Historic Society hosts a variety of annual events for members, including an upcoming banquet featuring historical reenactments. Another anticipated event is the Cemetery Walk, designed to connect residents with the lives and legacies of those who shaped the community. Their Century Homes program also continues to grow, recognizing properties over 100 years old; qualifying homeowners can register to receive a commemorative plaque and even historical photographs of their property. Plans are underway to expand this initiative to include historic business buildings downtown.

The organization is actively seeking volunteers and exploring options for climate-controlled storage to better preserve its growing collection. Community members with ideas or interest in contributing are encouraged to connect through the museum’s website at www.tippcityhistory.com or through Facebook. For those who prefer their history with a twist of intrigue, Enslen’s Frank Harper Murder-Mystery series offers another engaging way to experience Tipp City’s past, blending real historical elements with fictional storytelling rooted in the same streets and stories celebrated by the museum.
